Finding love in Verona

Our destination today was Verona made famous in Eat, Pray, Love. What a beautiful city to walk through with lovely piazzas,

quaint streets and buildings. I loved it there!! Our first stop was the Arena, built in the first century A.D.

A number of people were taking the set apart from an opera last night and fixing things up for the next performance. The likes of Pavarotti and Placido Domingo have sung there. We wandered and found a place for a cappuccino and Dave keeps wondering why he didn't drink them the last time we were in Italy. Great coffee!!

Although it was filled with many tourists, like us, we had to visit the home of Juliet.

Jordan thinks it is just a story written by Shakespeare but there may be some truth to it. About a century before William Shakespeare wrote the play "Romeo and Juliet", there already was a story going around Italy about two young lovers coming to a tragic end. Luigi da Porto was the first author to set the story in Verona and to name its main characters Romeo and Giulietta. The building that stands at No. 23 Via Cappello dates back to the 12th century and once belonged to the Capello family. "Juliet's house" is now one of the most visited sites in all of Verona. People come to profess their love on Juliet's wall by leaving letters, post-its or graffitis.

In the lovely inner courtyard, it's also possible to see Juliet's balcony and a bronze statue of Juliet - if you're wondering why her right breast is so shiny, it's because people believe that touching it will make you lucky in love.

Dave did not want to touch it. Lucky enough in love already but many people did and took a photo.
We crossed the river and climbed many stairs to the top to look out over all of Verona.

A spectacular view over Verona and a breezy break from the heat up there. After enjoying the view we went to the Duomo which was a beautiful church as well. We huffed it back to the train station and on the way I stopped to splash in the fountain. A good way for everyone to cool off.

My favorite photo of the day is of this lady watering her plants in front of her little shop.

Dad, Dave had fillet mignon smothered in mushrooms (sorry not pork chops) for dinner. Bonissimo!!
